╚═══════════════════════════════════════════ ◇◈◆ ╝
HAIR Dirty blonde, shaggy cut. Medium-short length, a couple inches shy of the shoulders when loose. Usually tied up into a small, messy ponytail. EYES Bright green. HEIGHT 6'7" - Taller than average for a Midlander, but shorter than average for Elezen. BUILD Athletic build that suggests an intentional balance of strength and dexterity. EARS Slightly elongated and softly pointed, but less prominent than a typical Elezen. Wears brass cuffs embossed with Turali designs on both earlobes. MANNER OF DRESS Reed's casual wardrobe errs on the side of functionality and form rather than flashy aesthetics or luxury. However, he does appear to have invested a fair bit of coin into the quality of his armor and equipment, and he clearly keeps them in the best condition that he possibly can.

SCARS Most notable is a thin scar across the right side of Reed's face. It begins at the hairline, breaks after cutting through the inner corner of his brow, then continues from cheekbone to jawline. Upon closer inspection, the scar's uneven edges would suggestion it to have originated from the tooth or claw of a past hunt.
Hidden beneath clothing and armor is a smattering of similarly beast-inflicted scars. However, on the lower right side of his torso, near the turn of his hipbone, is a notably distinct scar just a couple ilms long. Its clean, crisp edges indicate it likely came from a blade rather than beast. OTHER FEATURES Freckles cover the man's skin, particularly across cheek and chest.
Additionally, his nose is not quite straight. There's a slight skew to it that suggests it has likely been broken in the past.. probably more than once. Some of his fingers also suggest the same.
At first blush, Reed seems the type to wear his heart on his sleeve for all to plainly see. On a good day, he can be quite sociable and passably agreeable. Yet combining his sharp tongue and even quicker temper, the half-elezen is more often prone to finding trouble.. or starting it.
What conflicts cannot be won by scathing remarks alone, Reed is more than happy to settle with fists or weapons. However, he isn't of the habit of punching down at those who would make easy targets; rather, he greatly prefers to pick on those of his own size that are deserving of his ire. However, his criteria for who is 'deserving' is entirely arbitrary.
It would be easy for those who cross Reed's path to dismiss him as a crass, crude, and downright incorrigible bastard - and he seems to prefer it that way. Yet as is often the case, there's more depth to the man that lies below the carefully maintained mask.
For those that manage to find a chink in his armor and get a glimpse past the thorny facade, it's readily apparent that Reed isn't as cocksure and carefree as he'd like the world to think. He hides a number of secrets and scars that have been left to fester untended over long years, and he guards them more fiercely than a coeurl defending its cubs.

combat style
Reed is formally trained as a Viper, though still has a ways to go before total mastery.
By combining his strength, speed, agility, and knowledge of beasts, Reed strikes fast and hits hard in strategic spots.. then gets himself the hells out of the way before his opponent - whether beast or man - answers in kind.
aetheric aptitude
Outside of the techniques held in his Viper's Soulstone, Reed does not wield any other magicks in or outside of combat.
However, Reed can utilize common magicks such as aetheryte travel. He just needs a fair bit of rest after, especially when traveling over long distances.
armor
Medium leather armor that trades a bit of protection for more freedom of movement. Reed keeps a few different sets for various uses.
Though it's clear that his armor has seen its fair share of use and abuse, he obviously invests quite a bit of coin into keeping it in the best condition possible.
weaponry
A pair of thin, curved blades that resemble scimitars. They can be quickly joined together at the pommel to form a double-bladed glaive, then easily disjoined once more in typical Viper fashion.
Like his armor, Reed clearly values and excellently maintains them.
Reed Stoneshore was born in Limsa Lominsa to Gustavain Seabourne, an Elezen man, and Alicen Stoneshore, a Midlander woman. The couple had a total of five children all named after their shared love of music: Lyra the eldest, Reed their only son, Allegra the middle child, and the twins Calliope and Cadence being the youngest members of the large family.
For many years, the Stoneshore family lived a comfortable, if not lavish life. They were supported financially by Gustavain's lucrative shipping business, in which he personally captained his beloved vessel, the Sighing Siren. This led to repeated, prolonged absences in his children's lives - something which his son came to strongly resent even before a sudden shift in the winds of fortune forever changed their family's fate.
When Reed was in his early teenage years, tensions between Eorzea and the Garlean Empire heightened as the red moon Dalamud grew larger and larger in the sky. Like many civilian ships, the Sighing Siren was requisitioned by the Maelstrom ahead of the imminent clash with the Imperials. Gustavain and his crew were tasked with the transportation of supplies, equipment, and weaponry between the island of Vylbrand and Aldenard's western coast.
However, shortly before the imminent battle with the Empire would take place, the Sighing Siren would suddenly vanish without a trace whilst filled to the brim with critical supplies meant for Maelstrom troops at Carteneau.
However, no evidence of foul play was ever discovered - no wreckage, no reports of attacks or piracy along their route, and so on.
Yet all questions would seemingly be answered when scarcely more than a week later, another vessel would claim to have spotted the Siren - leaving a known Garlean encampment on the coast and sailing due West towards the New World.
Backlash from the Sighing Siren's apparent treachery came down swiftly upon Reed's family. Naturally, they were investigated under suspicion of being Garlean sympathizers or spies. Though no evidence of any misdeeds was found and the Stoneshore family eventually cleared, the court of public opinion had already made its verdict the moment that the rumors first reached them.
Their suspicion and scorn was solidified when, not long after this event, the Battle of Carteneau heralded the calamitous release of Bahamut. Like many others, the family was displaced from their home from the damage wrought by the elder primal's rampage. Yet while others banded together to overcome the tragedy and rebuild, the Stoneshores remained pariahs.
With their home and most of their worldly possessions destroyed and without Gustavain's income to support them in rebuilding, the family quickly fell destitute. Alicen tried to return to work as an assessor at Mealvaan's Gate where she had been employed prior to her marriage. Yet even after being found innocent, suspicion followed her closer than her own shadow.
Alicen was turned away not only by her former employer, but by most every establishment or individual to which she inquired. Her search for employment only ended when she finally found work at a kindly older seamstress' shop. Knowing the family couldn't support themselves on Alicen's meager wages alone, his elder sister Lyra also threw herself headlong into whatever work she could find to take care of their family in their father's stead.
His older sister, ever their father's most devoted defender, remained in complete denial of Gustavain's alleged crimes and insisted upon the existence of some greater conspiracy or explanation. This stance stood in direct opposition to Reed's own, wherein his pre-existing resentment of his absentee father was set firmly in stone once rumors of his apparent treachery had reached Vylbrand.
Because of these differing views of their father, the two eldest Stoneshore siblings butted heads often and loudly. Knowing their frequent arguments only caused even more misery for his mourning mother and strife amongst their confused younger sisters, Reed - himself barely in his mid-teens - chose to leave home for good.
After leaving home when he was still only barely a teenager, Reed was quick to fall in with a crowd of fellow misfits and miscreants to survive the dog-eat-dog streets of Limsa Lominsa. Having to rely on one another so extensively, the group of street rats quickly became like family to Reed - one that he often felt understood him far more than his own flesh and blood kin ever had.
In the beginning, Reed's crew made their meager living through petty crime. They picked pockets, stole from unsuspecting merchant stalls, and worked together to pull off simple cons. They did well enough to stave off hunger most nights in the beginning; however, as they grew older and their ill-begotten skills improved in turn, their fortunes began to change.. and so, too, did their ambitions.
Now in his later teen years, Reed and his found family began to experiment with new criminal undertakings. First, they moved on to burglaries and muggings. From there, it progressed further still into moving drugs, firearms, and other contraband into, out of, and around the city undetected. With this work, the crew was finally learning what it was like to not be struggling for survival. They were getting a taste of what it meant to actually thrive.
Yet increased rewards also came increased risk and that would eventually prove to be Reed's downfall.
During one such job, things went suddenly and terribly awry. When the dust settled, Reed was shocked to find that he had been quite literally stabbed in the back - well, technically his front - by one of the very same individuals he had struggled and fought alongside for survival for all those years. He was left behind to take the blame for the job-gone-wrong, with his would-be murderer intending for Reed to take the truth with him to his grave.
That plan might have worked, had it not been for the timely and fortunate intervention of Reed's eldest sister Lyra. Having come into the employ of the Dutiful Sisters of the Edelweiss, Reed's crew had been on Lyra's radar since she had learned of his involvement in their recently escalating crimes. As such, she was first upon the scene that night when the others fled without her brother in tow.
Not only was his eldest sister able to save his life, but she also hid him away and shielded him from the ensuing investigation. One would think that this might have led to a reconciliation between the two eldest Stoneshore siblings, yet they would be sorely mistaken.
The long weeks of recovery that followed were peppered with heated lectures from his sister. It felt to Reed that the only reason she had even saved him was to keep his fate from further damaging their family's name, rather than interceding from any manner of familial affection she held for him. Worse still, Lyra had explained that she had joined the Rogue's Guild to be able to investigate whatever delusions she held about their father's innocence.
It was clear to them both that any chance of familial reconciliation was a distant prospect. Yet rather than simply going their separate ways once Reed had healed enough to leave the safehouse, his sister instead gave him an ultimatum: he could leave the city for Tuliyollal upon a vessel she'd arranged passage on, or she would turn him over to the Yellowjackets herself.
It was for his own good, she claimed.. but to Reed, it was nothing short of cold, heartless exile.
Weeks later, Reed set foot upon Turali soil with naught but a pack of basic supplies, his personal effects, and a modest purse of gil to see him through until he found his footing.
Of course, the half-Elezen had no idea nor plan of what to do when he had reached the New World. In time, he likely would've ended up falling back into bad habits. Perhaps suspecting this, however, his sister Lyra had seen to other arrangements unbeknownst to him.
Not long after his arrival did Reed wake up to the insistent knock of an unexpected visitor before dawn: an older Hyuran man of Eorzean stock who grunted only a few words before shoving a set of training swords into his chest and motioning for Reed to follow.
Had the man been a stranger, Reed would have told him to sod off and went back to sleep. However, despite the many long years that had passed since he had last laid eyes upon the other, Reed still recognized his uncle, Symond Stoneshore.
His was a rare figure from Reed's childhood as Symond had made a life for himself in Tural long before his nephew had even been born. Though his uncle's trips to Limsa Lominsa to visit his sister's family had been few and far between, the young Reed had always found him a fascinating figure.
Perhaps it was a remnant of his boyhood intrigue, or maybe it was just that Reed was growing restless in this new and unfamiliar land.. Whatever it was that drove him, he took the training swords and followed behind wordlessly.
Despite his initial annoyance that Lyra had hid her arrangements for their uncle to find him in Tuliyollal, Reed remained at Symond's side over the years that followed his arrival.
At first, the long hours of brutal training that gave way to blissfully dreamless, heavy sleep were simply a distraction from the lingering sting of betrayal. Yet before long, that began to change. Training become less of means to an end, but something Reed actually looked forward to each day.
Symond was anything but soft and sweet to his nephew, particularly in those earliest days. Yet as Reed's interest in learning the way of the Viper increased, so too did his relationship with his uncle begin to grow. Once his training had advanced enough to the point of taking his newly forged skills to the field, Reed began to join Symond on hunts that took them all across the continent of Tural.
Countless bells spent traveling together, fighting back-to-back against vicious beasts, and celebrating their triumphs with drinks into the early morning hours.. Despite that they were both closed-off outcasts, the pair became close partners through their work ridding folks of the presence of lesser Tural Vidraal and other problematic beasts.
Gradually, Reed even came to view Symond almost like the father he had never truly felt he'd had.
For the first time in his life, Reed was truly happy.
He had a steady stream of honest, well-paying work that helped others rather than harming them. He had a companion he could trust completely, both with his life and his ghosts. Finally, he belonged somewhere.
Reed would have gladly carried on the rest of his life dedicated to the Dawn Hunt, fulfilling a Viper's duty to the people of Tural alongside his uncle. Yet one foolish lapse in judgment would prove to be all it would take to once more throw Reed's life into shambles.
During a hunt, Reed and his uncle decided to separate. Symond would keep tracking the cunning Tural Vidraal they were after while Reed went to gather the supplies they would need to overcome it. Afterward, they would rendezvous at a set time and place to put their plan into motion.
Yet while collecting these goods, the merchant he was trading with spoke of a suspiciously familiar ship that had brought the goods Reed sought. Despite telling himself that it didn't matter even if his suspicions were true, Reed couldn't tear the 'What if..?' from his mind. If there was even a chance that it could be the Sighing Siren, he had to see it for himself - even though it would delay his rendezvous by a few bells.
After following the merchant's directions to where they had picked up the goods, Reed found that he was too late with naught to greet him but empty ocean stretching from sand to horizon. More upset with himself than disappointed, Reed returned to the plan at hand.
However, the few bells that this distraction delayed him would prove to be a deadly mistake. When he arrived at their meeting place, Symond was nowhere to be found and Reed was instantly on alert. His uncle, unlike his foolish nephew, would never have succumbed to any such distractions while on the trail.
Something was very, very wrong.
Despite immediately beginning his search, Reed soon learned that was once again too late. While he managed to find Symond, unfortunately their Tural Vidraal had found him first.
A few years have passed since Symond Stoneshore's untimely death and Reed has long since fallen past his old bad habits into new and decidedly worse ones.
These days, Reed can be found traveling across the width and breadth of Hydaelyn. He continues to take on jobs hunting down beasts through organizations like the Dawn Hunt and Clan Centurio, taking on bills posted in the Adventurer's Guilds of Eorzea, and even assisting the Sharlayan Gleaners Guildship occasionally with particularly challenging research specimens.
Yet it is no longer the camaraderie of the hunt nor the Viper's duty to protect others that guides him as it once had. Rather, Reed is driven by his constant thirst for - if not outright addiction to - adrenaline and violence.
As such, he's expanded into selling his sword-arm to nearly anyone who promises to get his heart racing and blood flowing, or who'll at least pay him well enough to fund more enticing distractions and vices.

nightmare
Not like this..The job wasn’t supposed to go like this.It felt as if the world had suddenly collapsed in on itself around him, narrowing Reed’s vision down to the growing pool of red spreading across the marble floor. He couldn’t breathe. He couldn’t fucking breathe.“Des–” His voice was thin, barely above a hoarse whisper. “What.. did you do?”His eyes rose from the pool of blood to the young man that stood over the gasping merchant from whence it flowed. Reed could've sworn that he could hear the droplets dripping from the other’s blade, each impact louder than the hammering beat of his own heart in his ears. The other didn’t answer him.“Y-you killed him,” the half-elezen stammered. “No one was supposed to get hurt..” He could feel the bile clawing its way up the back of his throat. “Fuck!” he hissed, “What do we–”Before he could finish, he was wheeling away from the sight and doubling over to empty the contents of his stomach. Over and over, his stomach seized until there was nothing left but a stinging in his eyes and a burning in his throat.Still, no answer.Reed reached out to steady himself on the nearest piece of furniture as the gagging stopped. A cold sweat beaded at his brow, both his lips and his fingers trembling.“We just.. We just gotta’ turn ourselves in.” His voice threatened to break with his rising hysteria. “The Yellowjackets know this shit isn’t like us. They'll know that.. that it must’ve been a mistake.” Was he trying to convince Des, or himself? “Shit!” Reed suddenly pushed off the table that had supported his weight, sending it crashing to the floor. “We’re fuckin’ thieves, not murderers! They gotta’ know that we didn't mean–”“Reed.”It wasn’t the firmness in Des’ voice that snapped him from his panic, but the gentleness with which his hand came to rest on his shoulder. That softness was an odd, unfamiliar thing coming from a man whose touch Reed had only ever known to be harsh and demanding. Brutal, even.He should’ve known that something was wrong right then.Reed turned towards Des with the guidance of that gentle hand. And before he could even register what had happened, a sharp and searing pain exploded in his gut with such an unexpected intensity that his knees immediately buckled. Des’ right arm hooked around his waist, holding him upright against his chest to keep him from falling. His left hand, however, only pushed the blade of the knife deeper into his stomach.“Sorry mate,” the red-headed Hyur whispered, his voice sounding as if it were uttered malms away despite the hotness of his breath against Reed’s pointed ear. “I did always tell ye’ we’d never have no happy endin’..”
Reed woke with a start, jolting upright in bed with a sharp, hissing gasp. Nary a heartbeat missed, he was fighting himself free of the twisted, sweat-soaked covers ensnaring him.He threw his bare legs over the side of the bed and rose, awkwardly lurching towards the far side of the room. A tall mirror stood there, at just such a location and angle that the moonlight filtering in through the window allowed for him to see his reflection. As he stood there staring, his trembling fingertips fell to the scar just ilms above the dip of his hipbone. A quiet, ragged sigh of relief escaped him as calloused fingertips met rough, long-healed flesh. No blood, he reassured himself. A nightmare. Just another nightmare.Reed’s eyes closed as he tried to wrestle his breathing back under control and to quieten the thundering of his heartbeat. So intently focused was he that the sound of another’s approach from behind went unnoticed until a hand rested on his shoulder and made to gently pull him away from the mirror.“What’s wro–”The words were interrupted as Reed, fast as a coiled adder, wheeled on the source of the touch. Grabbing their forearm, he yanked them forward and off-balance as he shifted his own weight, spinning the would-be assailant around until he slammed their back roughly against the cold mirror. His arm rose, forearm pressed with bruising force against their throat. But it wasn’t the figure of his recurring nightmares that stared up at him, but the face of a confused and terrified Shetona woman whose name he hadn’t bothered to remember. Her hands scrambled for purchase against his chest, trying to push the much stronger half-elezen away. Her lips moved to say something, but the forearm pressed to her neck silenced them to soft wheezes.“Shit!”Just as suddenly as he had wheeled on her, he was stepping back and away. She caught herself leaning back against the mirror, coughing and gasping for breath as the curses flowed like water from under Reed’s breath.“Don’t–” he began in a vicious snarl, gritted his teeth, and then continued in a slightly less feral tone. “Don’t fuckin’ sneak up behind me.”“I.. didn’t,” the Shetona gasped, hand lifting to rub at her throat as she coughed and gagged. Undoubtedly, the force of it would leave a bruise. Perhaps another might have felt remorseful about inflicting such undeserving injury. Right now, all Reed could feel was white-hot anger and the remnants of barely-contained panic. He took a few unsteady steps backwards, collapsing into a slumped sitting position when the back of his legs met with the bed's edge. His heart was still raving.“You woke up like a man possessed,” the woman explained once she had caught her breath. Despite the way he had caused her harm, even if unintentionally, Reed could still hear the barest edge of concern in her words. “What could’ve possibly frightened you so badly that–”“I think it’s well past time you leave.”She fell silent in an instant, undoubtedly hearing the unspoken threat in his terse answer. The nameless woman made to collect her clothes from where they lay strewn across the floor. Reed squeezed his eyes shut, and though he didn’t watch her dress, he warily tracked her movements across the room by sound. Her footsteps moved towards the door, but before the squeak of the hinges came, she spoke again.“..Are you sure you’re alright?”Pity. That was pity in her voice.Reed’s fists tightened until his nails bit painfully into his palms, breaking skin. He ground his teeth together.“Gilpurse is on the table by the door,” he snapped. “Get what you’re owed an' get the fuck out.”At first came stunned silence, then, “I’m not a whore.” The sickening, gods-be-damned pity had been replaced by disgust. Good.He took careful aim with his last words, to deal the definitive killing blow to whatever lingering scrap of sympathy the Shetona might’ve still harbored for him. Just to be sure.“Hnn.. Could’ve fooled me.”The words struck true and the door slammed so hard that the window rattled. With a groan, Reed collapsed backwards once more onto the sweat-soaked sheets.Alone.

exile

“You deserve to feel safe,” his sister sighed as she tossed the small purse of gil in Reed’s direction. “And happy.”His hand shot out to catch it, but the sudden movement caused a flare of pain in his barely-healed gut that contorted his face into a grimace. Seeing the reaction, Lyra's expression turned apologetic. She seemed so sincere that Reed might have actually believed it.. but he’d known ever since they were young that his elder sister was nothing if not the spitting image of the father he so deeply resented. That she was still trying to convince him - of all people - of how much she cared for him while simultaneously exiling him from their shared home was proof enough of that.“Piss off,” he hissed as he shoved the purse into his pack along with the meager few belongings he owned. That she had been the one to have to retrieve them for him while he was abed, all because he was being nursed back to health by her as well, made his temper flare hotter than the forges at Naldiq and Vymelli’s.“I mean it, Reed,” she insisted, though impatience was beginning to worm its way in through the cracks of her act. Lyra never could stand it that Reed could so plainly see through her chocobo-shite when the rest of the bloody world seemed to fall for it hook, line, and sinker.“Do you now?” he challenged, starting forward down the pier towards the awaiting ship and physically pushing past her as he did - and bit back another grimace as his weakened body protested at the shove. “No, what you’re meanin’ is that Mother, our sisters, an' you deserve to feel safe an’ happy – and you think that I’m goin’ to ruin it for all of you ‘less you ship me off to the bloody New World.”He bit back an annoyed groan at the sharp, clipped sound of the heel of her boots against the dock as she followed hot on his heels - clearly incensed by his provocation. Though she might’ve been a far sight better at suppressing her temper than he, his Dutiful Sister still had her tells for those that knew where to look. For a mercy, at least, she at least had the kindness - faked or not - to refrain from wrenching him around to face her as she grabbed his arm and forced him to a stop.“Gods damn it all, Reed!” she hissed, her voice low to keep from attracting attention from the porters and deckhands coming and going along the busy pier. The ship she’d booked passage for him on would be disembarking for Tuliyollal soon, and fortunately for her, all were too busy with their final preparations to stop and listen to the heated bickering of two siblings.“Everything I’ve ever done for you, I’ve done because I love you - despite your best efforts to dissuade me from it - because I want you to be part of this family again! But I don’t know how to bloody help you anymore because you won’t let me!” Her fists curled at her sides to stop the trembling in her fingers. “So if I’ve got to make you get a fresh start halfway around the damned world so that you can get your head straight and get over hating Father for–”There it was.He would’ve laughed at the predictability of it - of her inability to keep their father out of any argument the two of them ever had - if he wasn’t already seething.“I’ll get on your fuckin’ ship–” Reed cut her off with a snarl, roughly shoving her back and away from him. Though between having yet to see his strength fully return and Lyra’s fancy new training from the Dutiful Sisters of the Edelweiss, she didn’t so much as sway before steadying herself. “--and I’ll go to the New World if it’ll get you to quit your bloody sham of givin' a damn about me.”His voice dropped to a low growl, quiet enough to pass only between the two of them. “But you’d best believe that if I find that sorry sack of chocobo-shite that threw in with the Garleans and left his ‘precious family’ to rot, I’ll relish every gods-be-damned moment of openin’ his throat myself!”Lyra’s face twisted in barely contained fury, freckled cheeks bright red from the effort it took to bite back the truth she so stubbornly held tight to her chest from escaping. What Reed wouldn’t give to hear her - just once - admit that she hated him.Yet as always, it seemed he would be denied the satisfaction.“You are the most incorrigible bastard ever born, you know that?” she hissed, stepping back and throwing her hands up in frustrated surrender. That, at least, caused a flicker of smug satisfaction within him. “Go on, then! Go and ruin your life all over again, if that’s what you really want! Gods know you’re sure as shite good at that!”Reed had nothing more to say. Nothing that would’ve made any difference, anyroad. Wordlessly, he turned, stalking off towards the merchant ship that would be carrying him to this ‘new life’.This time, his sister didn’t pursue him. Only a soft, colorful curse escaped her before he could hear her turning, the fast staccato of her steps growing fainter as she stormed away. But the irony of the moment didn’t escape him as he made his way to the ship at dock’s end. It had only taken about twenty years, but finally, the two eldest Stoneshore siblings had agreed on something.Without a doubt, Lyra was right.. Reed knew he’d likely find a way to ruin this fresh start, too.
This is less of a standalone hook and more of a note on setting, but I really like to avoid RPing in the Quicksand and taverns whenver possible. Unless we're starting there to kick off a more engaging plot, I would prefer to RP almost anywhere else. It's just so boring!
So, here's some ideas for other places your character might stumble upon Reed..
TURAL Reed returns to Tural often and tends to stay for extended periods of time to hunt. He very much considers the New World his home, even if he was not born there.
UL'DAH In Eorzea, Ul'dah has become a frequent haunt of Reed's due to the abundance of work to be done, coin to be made, vices in which to indulge, and general prevalence of moral ambiguity.
RADZ-AT-HAN Alchemists with insatiable curiosity and merchants with a ferocious appetite for profit make for an abundance of work to be had for a beast-hunter and sellsword.
LIMSA LOMINSA This is a rarer one given his past and resulting avoidance, but totally doable especially when combined with some manner of plot-based reason for him to be there!
OLD SHARLAYAN Another less frequent but still doable option. Reed travels here occasionally to pick up work if the Guildship has requests for particularly nasty research specimens or if a scholar needs protection during field research.
"WHAT ABOUT _____?" Is there another location that you're curious about? Just ask! Reed is very flexible with being able to reasonably RP almost anywhere in game (except locations like the First, Mare Lamentorum, Ultima Thule, etc).
comrades in arms
Like Reed, your character is in the business of hunting down nasty creatures for coin. Also like Reed, they’ve signed onto a particular hunt bill requiring the strength and cunning of more than one skilled fighter. Now, the two of them are tasked with tracking down and dispatching a shared target.
an unlikely hero
Your character isn’t a hunter. Hells, they might not even be a fighter at all. However, through some twist of fate of your choosing, they’ve ended up on the man-eating end of a hungering beast. Having been on the creature’s trail for a while, Reed happens to catch up with his mark just before your character becomes its next meal.
Of course, the half-Elezen isn’t exactly the gallant and chivalrous hero-type. He might will probably expect some kind of payment for his services, especially if your character seems well-to-do. And if they want a capable escort back to safety? Well, that’ll be extra.
purchaser of poisons and potions
When you make a living hunting creatures that can rival even the smartest or strongest of men, Reed's philosophy is that it never hurts to have tricks up your sleeve just in case.
Perhaps the belligerent hunter seeks out your character, a purveyor of alchemical goods, to stock up on his usual tricks of the trade? Or is he looking for something complicated and custom to deal with a particularly difficult mark?
quarry from beyond the rift
Reed is a confident and competent hunter of all manner of beast, save for one particular type of quarry: Voidsent. He typically avoids taking on contracts with targets known to have originated from beyond the rift.
Your character, however, is far more confident in tracking down and dispatching the denizens of the Thirteenth. It is on one of their own hunts that they cross paths with Reed who, upon realizing the nature of his quarry, is more than willing to accept another hunter's aid.
a helping hand
Unfortunately, Reed seems to have bitten off a bit more than he was prepared to chew in his latest hunt. Luckily, your character happens upon him before his luck finally runs out. Maybe they’re a fellow fighter that joins in mid-fight to turn the tides, or they’re a healer that finds him heavily injured in the fight’s aftermath. Either way, they have saved Reed’s life and, whether he likes it or not, he's in their debt.
stiff competition
A particularly lucrative hunt bill has been posted, and there’s no shortage of eager hunters looking to cash in on the gold and glory promised.
Your character crosses paths with Reed during their pursuit of this mark, instantly putting the pair at odds. Will they try to take out their competition outright? Perhaps the two agree to form an uneasy alliance to take down their elusive and fierce prey instead, all the while wary that the other plans to stab them in the back as soon as their guard drops?
tools of the trade
Reed does an excellent job of tending to his weapons and armor in his downtime, but a particularly difficult job has left his gear in dire need of a professional's touch to right them.
That's where your character - an armorer, blacksmith, leatherworker, or some other type of craftsman - comes into the picture. But Reed doesn't entrust the gear his life literally depends upon to just anyone who says they can swing a hammer or tan some leather. First, they'll have to prove themselves capable and competent.
dungeon diving
There is something your character considers valuable to be found deep in the bowels of some manner of dungeon or ruin, whether that’s the subject of their research, a particular treasure they covet, or even just the promise of adventure. Whatever the case, they’ve retained Reed’s services to assist them in this venture.
crime pays
Your character is some manner of criminal in need of the services of someone capable who also plays fast and loose with the law and morality. Enter Reed, who fits the bill just perfectly. Whether they need him to crack skulls and collect some debts or just stick close and look intimidating, he’s content to accept most any job so long as your character is paying handsomely.
using protection
Perhaps your character is a merchant with costly goods to transport? Maybe they’re about to set out on a long and perilous journey, or they just have enemies that are poised to pounce at any moment? Whatever the case, they now find themselves in dire need of a capable guard and protector. Reed’s your man for the job, just so long as you’ve the coin to pay his price - and the patience to put up with his attitude.
high stakes heist
Reed has extensive experience in relieving people of their possessions, same as your character. They’ve been paired up by a mutual employer that’s tasked them with retrieval of a certain item. It’s time to plan the heist of a century!
found family lost
Your character ran with the same rag-tag band of misfits and miscreants that Reed long considered his found family before he was left to die. It could be that they weren’t involved in that particular job-gone-wrong, so they may be shocked to find Reed still alive and kicking after all these years. Or was your character not only present, but complicit? If so, they’d best be prepared for a very rocky family reunion.
serpent saviors
Several years ago in Tural, your character was saved from the jaws of a vicious beast by a pair of Vipers - Reed and his uncle and mentor, Symond Stoneshore. Now, they’ve once more crossed Reed’s path and can’t help but wonder why he's no longer joined by the gruff old hyur.. and why does Reed look so uncomfortable when they ask?
seeker of blood and bruises
Whether it's officially sanctioned or a clandestine back-alley affair, Reed is scarcely able to turn away from the brutal allure of the fighting pits. Sometimes he watches and bets, but more often he's like to be found in the fray itself.
Your character may have run into him at one of these affairs. They may have also noticed how the bastard never seems to leave the ring without a grin on that smug mug of his.. even when the bout ends in him getting beaten bloody.
hunting the hunter
After encountering some difficulties on a recent less-than-legal job, Reed has found himself a wanted man. Your character, meanwhile, intends to claim the reward offered for his capture and arrest. But hunting the hunter is a tall order and Reed isn’t going to go quietly. Will your character try to subdue him by brute force, or will they use their cunning to lure him into a trap before he even realizes he’s become prey?
wanna take this outside?
Either your character has done something to get under Reed’s skin, or Reed has decided to pick a fight to scratch his itch for violence. Whatever the case may be, tempers begin to flare and a brawl is imminent. Best take this outside before the first fist is thrown..
man of many vices
Lately, Reed has been finding it difficult to keep his skeletons tucked away in their closet. Rather than deal with them in any healthy way, he turns to his usual distractions instead. Whether it’s the mind-numbing haze of drink and drug, the all-consuming bliss of a lover, or the thrill of hitting it big on the next hand of cards, your character provides the sort of distraction that Reed needs to keep his mind off that which haunts him.
bad blood
When you deal in shady shit, you’re bound to make some enemies. Whether Reed’s run afoul of them directly or whether they’ve been tasked to send the half-Elezen bastard a message on behalf of another, your character has come to Reed looking to collect their pound of flesh… and it ain’t gonna be pretty.

If you would like to RP with Reed, I would kindly ask that you take a moment to read through this page to see if we'll be a good match.
I'll start with what you can expect from me as an RP partner!

about me
Most call me Ghoa, but Reed is also fine! I'm a thirty-something year old chaos gremlin that enjoys bad puns and writing things that make my heart hurt a lot. My pronouns are she/her.
I'm an anxious introverted weenie that is afraid to /tell people first in case I'm inconveniencing them. So if you want to RP, just lemme know because I probably want to RP with you, too!!
rain checks
I like to fish for future RP contacts when I'm queueing for things or if I don't have the spoons or time to write at that very moment. So feel free to reach out if you see me out anywhere!
availability
Typically, I can be available between 5-10 PM Central US time during the week or pretty much any time on weekends, especially if we schedule in advance.
I try not to start new scenes after 9PM when I work the next day, but I can gladly give you a rain check if you'd like to get together and RP another time!
walk-ups & tells
I'm open to either, but /tells tend to be most successful to get my attention. I'm usually multi-tasking while fishing for RP, so feel free to /tell me a little nudge if I seem to have missed your post!
mature & dark themes
As a character, Reed is right at home in the realm of dark and mature themes. As a writer, I greatly enjoy writing them as well. This includes themes of violence, toxic relationships, substance use, crime, horror, sexuality, and so on.
However, I prefer there to be a balance between the dark and the light. Dark-themed roleplay is just flat and boring if the characters never get to experience joys and triumphs.
sexual rp preference
I'm equally comfortable with writing out sexual scenes or fading to black! However, I do get burnt out on ERP scenes very quickly. As such, I prefer long-term RP to not be disproportionately sexual in nature. Short-term or oneshot scenes, I'm less picky - but not always inclined.
There are some things that I'm not comfortable writing, most being the usual suspects. Here's the list - just don't be weird about it.
lore compliance
I am largely lore-abiding, but I'm also rather open-minded. As long as you aren't outright breaking lore that's been well established in the canon, I'm open (within reason) to potential interaction.
That said, I have limits: No all-powerful or overpowered characters. No canon NPCs or canonical WoLs. Lastly, please ask for my consent OOCly before using any powers like the Echo, aether-reading, etc. on Reed.
post length & speed
Left to my own devices, I tend towards para and para+. However, I'll generally adjust based on both my partner's preference as well as the situation or location that we're in.
That said, please be mindful that I may not be the quickest when writing longer posts. I have ADHD, so I sometimes struggle with perfectionism and focus - especially late in the evenings when my meds are wearing off.
what i'm looking for
(1) Non-sexual roleplay, first and foremost!
(2) Scenes that are driven by some purpose or plot. Let's figure out a premise for the scene we can both sink our teeth into!
(3) Mature, character development-focused roleplay. Reed's a broken, flawed man with serious trauma and questionable coping mechanisms. I love exploring these more serious, internally-driven themes in roleplay just as much - if not more - than any externally-driven monster hunt or dungeon crawl. (But those are fun, too!)
what i'll pass on
(1) Excessive slice-of-life and tavern-talk RP. Occasionally is fine, but I'm not looking for connections that will not progress past this.
(2) No character death or major disfigurement, but I'm open to discussing other serious injuries or afflictions as they relate to plot.
(3) Planned ships and quick romances are a no-go. Any romantic RP with Reed will only happen organically and develop over a long period of time. (The man's got serious emotional intimacy issues.)

001
must be 21+ ooc
Due to the themes likely to come up in RP with Reed, I'm not comfortable with writing anyone below 21.
002
no minor characters
Similarly, I also will not write Reed with any minor or minor-coded characters. This includes non-mature themes.
003
keep ic & ooc separate
I am not my character and my character is not me. (I'm much nicer, I promise!) Please bear this in mind!
004
no fetish characters
Futa, F+, trap, and such - that means you! However, actual gender nonconforming OCs are totally fine & welcome!
005
no ooc flirting
Whether sexual or romantic, I'm NOT interested and have zero tolerance for this rule being broken - even if you're "just joking around."
006
minimize sexual talk
I also prefer for OOC sexual talk, jokes, etc. to be limited. While I'm far from a prude, it makes me uncomfy when we barely know each other.
007
no clinginess
I have other characters, RP partners, friends, etc. I'd love to be friends, but just don't expect to receive constant attention from me!
008
spelling & grammar
I don't ask for perfection. (I'm not perfect myself!) I just ask that you make an effort to use proper spelling, punctuation, and grammar please!
